Our last wedding of 2013 fell on winter solstice and it could not have been a more fitting celebration to round out an amazing year. Jessica and Erik began their marriage with a classy, romantic and elegant celebration at the Elysian Ballroom. It was our first time at this downtown Portland venue and our jaws dropped when we arrived and saw the ballroom set up for their ceremony. Jessica planned every detail and the rich lighting, colorful drapes and candle strewn tables completely fit the bill for a romantic winter wedding.
Jessica and Erik had a style that blended perfectly with their theme. Jessica donned a unique and simply beautiful dress from a local designer, Lena Medoyeff. While Erik’s suit included tails and top hat, not to mention his pocket watch he kept on him. Between the two of them, they were the complete package and total knockouts. The ceremony brought their own style as well, including a Kirtan song and an exit to “All You Need is Love” by the Beatles, with guests singing along to both songs. As you can imagine, the reception brought the same amount of love and enthusiasm from everyone involved. All I can say is that it truly was a celebration. The definition of it.
Lastly, we need to mention an important person at the wedding. Throughout the months leading up to it, we heard a lot about Jessica’s dad…87 years old, gentle, kind and an instrumental part in the wedding planning. When December 21st finally arrived, it was so wonderful to meet the man behind such an incredible woman like Jessica. We felt honored to capture tender moments between them during the wedding day. Such as when he toasted his daughter and lovingly ended with, “I love you so much and I’ve been proud of you every day of your life.” It brought tears to my eyes (of course) and reminded us both of how significant a wedding day is, not just to the bride and groom but also to the family behind them.
Like I said, it was the perfect wedding to end the year and reminded us so much of why we love this job.
Cheers Erik & Jessica!
I think you captured their style. Nice work.
