We love a good party. And so do Sophie and Mark. From the moment their day began, there was an energy about these two that we really loved to be around. They kept saying, “Just wait for the party!” And they didn’t disappoint.
But first, we photographed their ceremony in one of the most unique spaces we’ve seen for a wedding in a long time. Besides a good party, we love a good low-light challenge. Sophie and Mark gave us a run for our money and exchanged vows on a dark stage for their Gerding Theater wedding. This venue also houses a local theater company, Portland Center Stage. They stood under a simple white altar that hung a stunning chandelier with absolutely no lights on, except for a single spotlight to illuminate the couple. And of course, we seized the chance to photograph in this dramatic and moody lighting. The setting was urban, hip, sleek and just a touch of drama. Perfect for Sophie and Mark.
Then the party began. To kick it off, the newlyweds made their entrance by dancing (yes, dancing), down a flight of stairs to Beyonce’s “Love on Top”. Sophie was swishing that dress every which way and the two of them were laughing the whole way down. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour on the lobby level, dinner in the balcony above and then came back downstairs to dance their butts off to one of Portland’s best DJ’s, Dan Moe. (aka DJ Moe, we highly recommend him for his awesome mashups and killer personality!) We also had the fun of working with Soiree Special Event Planning where wedding planner extraordinaire Molli Barss and her team executed every little detail seamlessly so that Sophie and Mark could just sit back and enjoy.
Sophie and Mark, thank you for inviting us into your lives for a day and giving us the honor of photographing your electric, energizing, love filled celebration. It was SO much fun. Cheers!
Wow. Sexy lighting. Numbers 5 & 6 are great journalistic shots and I love the dancing image of the couple.
