It seems this year was the year of Jewish weddings for us. We need two hands to count the number of them and what we love most about that, is that we were given the privilege to document such a sacred and meaningful celebration among families. Jewish weddings are rich in tradition, yet unique in their delivery each week. Scott and Sarah’s wedding gave us our first opportunity to photograph actually inside a synagogue for their Temple Beth Israel wedding in Portland.
Beth Israel is a beautiful structure that we have admired for years from the outside and it was a treat to finally see it on the inside. The ornate walls and stunning glass ceiling were the perfect backdrop for this charming couple, who hosted an elegant black tie affair for their nearly 200 guests. Sarah was simply captivating in her gown which had a long draping train that followed her as she made her way down the aisle towards Scott. And he matched her style perfectly in a classic black tux with a bowtie. Before this ceremony got started, we had the chance to photograph them in the perfect spot, the Hotel DeLuxe which describes itself as a classic hotel with “touch of glamour”.
Back to their ceremony, after an emotional ketubah signing and traditional ceremony, the reception got underway next door at the temple’s event space. Their reception was every bit as classy and sophisticated as the couple themselves. And just like the hotel where they got ready, there was that touch of glamour to pull it all together. Scott and Sarah’s closest siblings gave speeches, a band serenaded their first dance and the hora dance had everyone, including Scott’s sister, high up in the chairs with huge smiles. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate such a sweet couple and we’re thrilled we could be a part of it all.
