Would you like to attend a Jewish wedding in an airplane hanger? Or a wedding where the bride’s hand drawn cartoon animals serve as centerpieces? How about a wedding where the groom wore a green suit? Yes, green. And while we’re at it, would you like to eat delicious kosher fish tacos from the only kosher caterer in the city? Or would you like to be at a wedding with the only klezmer band within a 300 mile radius who drove 3 hours to kick off the party? How about wearing a custom made kippah while playing finger puppets with your ceremony seat mates? Um, the answer to these questions is yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. We’re actually sad you all couldn’t be at Brooke and Boaz’s incredibly fun, inventive and unique Jewish wedding that we had the privilege and honor to document. We have know Boaz, creator of the Pedal Powered Talk Show, for a long time and we were overjoyed when he and Brooke were engaged. Brooke, creator of the New York Times best seller Sad Animal Facts, is the cheese to Boaz’s macaroni. Together they are the creators of another bestseller, the It’s Different Every Day calendar series and it’s perfectly OK to stop and google them now. Brooke and Boaz are a dynamic pair. Smart, talented, funny as heck and also two of the nicest people you will ever meet. I know that’s thrown around a lot but truly, we stand behind that statement. The nicest. Brooke and Boaz threw a laid back yet seamlessly organized traditional Jewish wedding inside of an airplane hangar in Vancouver, Washington. That was a first for us and the hangar created such an expansive canvas for which to create truly special photographs. Especially when we suggested Brooke and Boaz get ready in the hangar’s air museum and of course, they happily obliged. Brooke and Boaz incorporated family and friends to help in the ceremony and in creating the unique details that comprised their event. It began with flower girls throwing confetti instead of flowers and Brooke’s cousins sons sweeping the confetti with tiny push brooms. Boaz and Brooke’s family performed readings while close friends held the chuppah raised above them. A favorite moment for all of us was when Brooke and Boaz chose to break the glass and run, not walk, out of the ceremony. That moment was a kick off to a party (hello klezmer band!) that had us all smiling, laughing and drinking slushies until the sun went down. Words cannot express the gratitude we have towards not only knowing this couple but being given the honor to capture their wedding day. And if you’ve read this far, we encourage you to hop on over to the only Jewish wedding blog, Smashing the Glass, for a special feature of Brooke and Boaz’s wedding plus more photos from the big day. Mazel Tov, Brooke & Boaz!
