It was our first time shooting a Salem Convention Center wedding and let’s just say, it exceeded every expectation. We first met Blake and Jody at a pub the year before their wedding in Portland and when they told us they planned to deck out the convention center, we weren’t sure what to expect. But when we first saw the ballroom, you pretty much had to pick our jaws up off the floor. Christina Safford, of Designs by Muse, did an exceptional job bringing this vision to life in the form of literally thousands of draping garland flowers from Botanica Florals, and the magical lighting that can only be provided by the experts at Greenlight Creative.
Before stepping into this room and enjoying a dazzling reception, Blake and Jody got ready at the Grand Hotel adjacent to the convention center. Jody was a vision. I repeat a VISION in a lace dress that hugged just right with a gorgeous train and full length veil. We couldn’t stop taking her portraits during the getting ready portion of the day and once her and Blake saw each other…well we couldn’t stop taking portraits of the two of them. Vows were exchanged and the knot was tied with a traditional catholic wedding ceremony at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in downtown Salem. After which, the veil came off, the dress got bustled, the ties were loosened and the party started. Honestly, that transformation from formal traditions to a full on party is so much fun for photographers. Photographing such contrasting situations keeps us on our toes and also gives our work variety, spice and flair. Our website says that we aim to tell your story. To capture unique, different and creative images while also documenting your personal moments, your traditions and the little things you hold dear. We couldn’t possibly achieve these elements of wedding photography without being there for the entire day and having such amazing trusting relationships with our wedding couples. All of this is to reiterate how fun Blake and Jody’s wedding was for us. We love to be able to move from a catholic ceremony to a colorful, vibrant and all around awesome reception. Through these transitions, we are able to see and document how much this couple wanted to not just only honor traditions but also throw one hell of a party.
Blake and Jody are just sweet, thoughtful and loving in every sense of the word. They are gentle spirits who were clearly had excellent taste in friends as well as the wedding party was one of the most relaxed we have photographed. Sometimes the frenzy of several bridesmaids and groomsmen can detract from the flow of a wedding day but not with this crew. Blake and Jody’s wedding party were seriously some of the most supportive, laid back and fun attendants we’ve ever met.
We worked alongside Marc from Moving Pictures wedding films, and we honestly love working with this crew. It’s a well oiled machine and we’re proud of the wedding photography and film we could produce for this awesome couple. Once again, Christina from Muse created a breathtakingly beautiful setting while making sure things were done well and efficiently. Talk about a dream team! Enjoy the wedding photos we’ve selected to share on our blog.
