Colton and James tied the knot high atop of Mt. Hood at one of our area’s best mountain wedding venues, Timberline Lodge. Their wedding was simple and sweet. A gathering of only their closest friends and family, photographing their wedding felt both intimate and relaxed. Like we were just two additional friends there to join the party…but bring our nice cameras too! Colton and James have always treated us like that, from the moment they booked their summer Timberline Lodge wedding to even recently when they invited us to join them at their Mt. Hood cabin sometime.
James and Colton got ready together on their wedding day. We kind of love this! It’s so unique when couples get ready together, and the mood is always so relaxed. Since there was no first look, we had extra time before the ceremony taking family photos and also taking glimpses of Mt. Hood to see how the weather was shaping up. It was a summer day, but the mountain was half under a blanket of clouds that we hoped would lift at some point.
But before it did, James and Colton walked down the aisle together and exchanged their vows. Actually, they each walked down an opposite side of the wedding guests to join hands in the middle of the aisle. Their officiant, Zachary of Old Ways Ceremonies, was simply terrific and honored this couple who humorous yet heartfelt words that spoke to their character as well as the union of marriage. We can’t say enough about this officiant, and definitely recommend him! Colton and James are extremely close with their family so needless to say, it was an emotional ceremony that touched our hearts too.
The reception was held in the Raven’s Nest room at Timberline Lodge, where we heard more about Colton and James through the words of their family and friends. We always learn so much about our couples through the wedding speeches. Colton and James had the most endearing story of how they met, and how they almost didn’t meet. It’s these types of stories that get us choked up behind the lens and while we won’t go into their private details, we are willing to bet that everyone can empathize with a true love story like theirs. One where two roads diverged in a few different ways, only to find themselves in the arms of each other and never looking back. Once dancing was going and drinks were flowing, the sun was just about set when low and behold…the clouds on our treasured Mt. Hood lifted! We ran, not walked, with Colton and James out to the mountain. Since it was summer, you could walk up the trails easily. Without many cares in the world, we all just enjoyed cruising, laughing and taking photos. A passing hiker yelled out “Congratulations!” Colton said thank you while also pausing with her for a photo. Another testament to the generous and kind spirit that these two embody. They are just good people. And we are just so happy we could be their photographers.
Congratulations James and Colton!
