Full disclosure: Daniel and I have a love affair with San Diego. We’ve been 3 times in the last year just to escape Portland, bask in the sun, swim in the ocean and well…eat legit tacos. And we always stay at the same hotel. So when we were given the opportunity to finally photograph Kyra and Chad (a ridiculously sweet and happy couple) for their Lafayette Hotel wedding in San Diego….we were ecstatic!
First the two tied the knot in a traditional Greek orthodox wedding ceremony at the church where Kyra attended all growing up. We felt honored to witness and photograph their union in such a culturally rich and aesthetically beautiful environment.
One of our favorite moments though was just before the ceremony. Kyra was tucked into an area of the church reserved for their day school and her mom was putting her veil in place. The room was quiet, and Kyra looked simply angelic as her mom adjusted her floor length veil. It was evident that Kyra was taking a moment to reflect before walking down the aisle. It’s those moments, the ones that happen in between, that we truly love to capture. As we always say to our potential brides and grooms, we love to capture the moments you’ll remember and the ones you didn’t even realize were happening.
That was about all the quiet we had for the rest of the day though because let me tell you, Kyra and Chad are really super fun! These two constantly make each other laugh, they have boundless energy and appreciation for the friends and family, and I think Kyra put it best when she kept saying, “This is just SO FUN.” And when Daniel asked Chad to jump and kick for Kyra, he sure did. About 4 times actually.
As Kyra and Chad’s Lafayette Hotel wedding reception got under way, the fun only continued. We were so happy to be there for every little moment. From that quiet veil moment before the ceremony, to the beautiful (and again, fun!) Balboa Park wedding party photos, to the reception in the same room where Top Gun was filmed and finally, to the stunning San Diego sunset that capped the day perfectly.
Kyra and Chad, enjoy the photos and always, keep having fun together. Thank you for what was our first San Diego wedding, but hopefully not our last!
These photos couldn’t be any more perfect. Incredibly beautiful wedding!
