Chrissy & Kelly

Chrissy and Kelly emailed us on a Wednesday with an inquiry about their small wedding the following Friday. It was last minute but in Kelly’s words, “We thought we’d give it a shot and check your availability.” It was the night before a big Saturday wedding for us and to be honest, there was no way we’d rather spend it than photographing Kelly and Chrissy’s legal ceremony. With the recent passing of same sex marriage equality in Oregon, Kelly and Chrissy decided to take the next step in their 15 year relationship with a small, intimate ceremony surrounded by only their closest family.

In a particularly sweet moment, Chrissy, originally hailing from Montana, chose to sing a portion of the ceremony to Kelly along with playing the guitar. A retired judge resided over the vows and afterwards, the family enjoyed champagne and cupcakes to celebrate the newlyweds. Kelly and Chrissy treated us like family too and after some nice portrait time around Pittock Mansion and Forest Park, we said our goodbyes as the group went off to a special dinner.

We’re so incredibly happy for Kelly and Chrissy and equally proud of Oregon for taking this step, along with 18 other states. Here’s hoping that the remaining 31 follow suit and that we see many more same sex weddings on wedding photography blogs everywhere!
