Kera & Peter’s Griffin House Wedding
Words can’t express how happy we were to photograph Kera and Peter’s intimate and romantic Griffin House wedding in Hood River, Oregon…. But that said, I’ll try to use the best words I can to sum up this couple and this magical place.
Perched on the edge of the Columbia Gorge, on a perfect checks-all-the-boxes Oregon day in September, we were given the opportunity to document memories that will last a lifetime. Kera and Peter were the most gracious couple to us and all their vendors. These two had to postpone their wedding from 2020, like many people, but they were so darn easy to work with in the process. Kera was an effortlessly kind bride in every way possible. Her and Peter thought of every detail, and you could just tell that no matter how long they had to wait, they would do it right. And that they did. The entire day was just filled with this sense of togetherness. Together with their friends. Together with their family. Together with each other. There was love and tenderness in the vows that struck a chord in all our hearts. There were speeches filled with humor, emotion and touches of personal sentiment that felt like an honor to listen to.
Your Perfect Bridesmaid was the perfect wedding planner to make sure this day ran smooth and with a smile. This Pacific Northwest wedding planning team were so gracious and ran a seamless event for Kera and Peter. We can’t forget to mention another team who was just as integral…the amazing Crave Catering. Portland based wedding caterers, these guys are a well oiled wedding catering machine that serves not only the most delicious display of food but keeps the fun energy up too!
Back to Kera and Peter’s amazing day though… Because while talented wedding vendors are essential, a special couple is second to none. These two were the most generous with their love, so thoughtful with each person in attendance and we could honestly tell how much they were taking it in. Particularly during our sunset hour portraits. The expansive Hood River sky put on a show for us. We told Kera and Peter to just enjoy the quiet moment and we just stayed present, trying to capture them in their element. Those images are some of our favorites from the entire day.
Afterwards, the dancing got started and oh boy, this group came to dance! Especially Kera and Peter! They almost never left the dance floor. (Give it up for Stumptown DJs who always make it happen!) It is such a wonderful sight to capture. People truly loving their wedding day and knowing that they need to soak up every second. That’s what it’s all about!
Getting Married at The Griffin House
The Griffin House is such an intimate and special venue. Overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, a Griffin House wedding makes you feel like you’re getting married literally right on top of the river. The ceremony site is perfectly angled towards the west where you see the classic gorge view in all it’s glory. The property is so much more than the view, though. First, couples get ready in the main home on site, which is bright, airy and tastefully decorated to make you comfortable. Marlowe and her team are extremely accommodating and just nice, down to earth people. The house and land have been her family for years yet they welcome you as if it’s your home too.
Weddings include a quaint cocktail hour area (also with stunning views, make no mistake) that feels just right for sipping champagne and catching up with your guests post ceremony. From there, guests can meander through the lush and very private grounds to make their way to the reception lawn. For Kera and Peter’s wedding, we were protected by a tent which everyone knows is almost essential in the Columbia Gorge. The Griffin House does a great job of making this tent feel quaint and cozy, while also keeping you shielded from the Columbia Gorge’s notorious winds.
More Columbia Gorge Weddings
If you enjoyed this Griffin House wedding, we recommend taking a stroll through all our Columbia Gorge weddings, so you can see just how incredible and versatile wedding venues in this area can be. There is the iconic Mt. Hood Organic Farms, if you’re looking for more of an “up close and personal with Mt. Hood” type of Oregon wedding venue. Or stay closer to Hood River (like the Griffin House) and check out the nearby Columbia Gorge Hotel, which boasts a more historical vibe. If you want to venture a little further east, we are also in love with the Sunshine Mill wedding venue in The Dalles, Oregon where you can say you got married a former wheat factory that produced Cheez-Its! Woohoo!
