Chris and Laura’s wedding in North Portland was one that we were looking forward to throughout the entire summer. As was evident in their cocktail inspired engagement session early this year, these two have a simple ease about them that makes you smile. They are exceptional listeners, genuine in their interactions with people, and just so very pleasant to be around.
When I, Lindsay, arrived at their house to photograph Laura getting ready on the wedding day, I felt like a long time friend. And her hairdresser fit in so well that I was surprised to learn they had only just met and didn’t know each other prior. Laura is incredibly calm, warm and welcoming. I’ve never felt more comfortable during a getting ready session with a bride.
Likewise for Daniel, who was at Chris’ friends house photographing Chris getting ready. He told me they were just hanging around like old buddies, drinking whiskey and nervously laughing as everyone anticipated the wedding.
The entire day followed in suit. Chris and Laura welcomed a small gathering of friends and family to a little quadrant of trees in Peninsula Park as they exchanged vows and made their commitment to each other. It was a completely gorgeous sunny Portland day and as Daniel and I looked occasionally turned the cameras towards the crowd, we recognized the faces of contentment and joy as loved ones watched these two people tie the knot.
Finally, we celebrated at the delicious and cozy Firehouse Restaurant where guests (and us, seeing as how we were treated as such!) enjoyed wood fired pizza, hand crafted cocktails (of course!) and an assortment of really cute details that told the story of how Chris and Laura met. Chris had tirelessly worked on a playlist for the reception which included 3 songs titled “Laura” and their first dance song, the Magnetic Fields’ “Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing.” As they danced in a circle of their nearest and dearest, we felt honored that we were present to document the marriage of these two really lovely people.
Thank you Chris and Laura, and see you for drinks next week!
