When thinking about our favorite weddings of all time, Chalmers and Lily’s Clarklewis wedding definitely deserves a spot on that list. And that may come as a surprise, given the fact that their Vista House ceremony overlooking the beautiful Columbia Gorge was completely socked in by wildfire smoke and high winds! But more on that later…
The day began with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony between the families at the somewhat new Hotel Rose in downtown Portland. And before I get started on the events that followed, let me first thank the fantastic Whitney Werts Events for handling what could have been an overly complicated day – with expert planning, effortless ease and a smile across her face the entire time. Whitney rocks!
Now, after the tea ceremony, we headed to Clarklewis where the couple would host their cocktail hour in a non-traditional way…before the wedding ceremony. After which, Lily did a quick change into her western wedding dress and we headed towards Vista Point. Now, about those wildfires… This historical site boasts a breathtaking view of the gorge. On a clear day. But just one week prior, devastating fires swept Eastern Oregon and the smoke had finally engulfed Lily and Chalmer’s gorgeous backdrop.
Have no fear! These two champions laughed their entire way through 25 mile-an-hour winds and a hazy glow behind them. Chalmers made us all laugh by reading his vows that he quickly printed off his Gmail account that morning. Lily beamed as she was announced husband-and-wife with her groom. And their intimate 75 member guest list applauded as they exited in style, smiling and dancing down the aisle.
Back to Clarklewis we went where the official reception got underway with an amazing coursed dinner by the chefs. And Lily and Chalmers treated us to every course- a rarity at weddings and we were so appreciative to have! Heartfelt and hilarious toasts were delivered in almost pitch black, with the exception of the videographer’s light and a few candles. And finally, Lily and Chalmers danced their first dance to a live performance from the DJ, Count on Me by Bruno Mars, which won all our hearts and had the crowd ready to party.
We also had the opportunity to take a few portraits of Lily and Chalmers on Portland’s waterfront with a scene we’ve never had before
It was a potentially chaotic day turned charming, sweet, and super, super fun. We absolutely loved every second of it and thank Lily and Chalmers for giving us the opportunity to capture it.
