We feel so lucky to have photographed Rachael and Matthew’s beautiful fall engagement session at Sparks Lake near Bend, Oregon. This couple has a zest for adventure and they love to absorb themselves in nature & beauty. Rachael and Matthew are from Hood River and they had asked for recommendations on where to have photos taken in Central Oregon. Specifying they love the mountains and would love their session to be at sunset, I knew Sparks Lake would be perfect. I gave them fair warning about the kinda-sorta bumpy road down into the lake area but they were unfazed and ready to dive in! We’re so happy they did because their Sparks Lake engagement session is now one of our favorites.
Sparks Lake embodies the best of Central Oregon in one stunning setting. The mountain views, the calm glassy lake and surrounding rock formations make it a perfect spot to have both versatility and convenience in one location. We love any area that gives you multiple backdrops just by deciding which way to turn your head. We started with the backdrop of the Three Sisters and Brokentop, which never disappoint and always make your jaw drop just a little bit. As the light got lower, Mt. Bachelor was lit up by the setting sun and we reversed our direction to capture some intimate portraits just as golden hour was hitting. Rachael & Matthew stayed so in tune to each other, and that only made for more intimate, loving and special photos. These two have such a deep connection and it was an honor to capture.
Hard to believe that a mere few weeks after this shoot, the mountains were snow covered and the Cascade Lakes Highway closed. That is part of the magic of Central Oregon. All four seasons are beautiful here, and we can’t believe we are here to photograph couples in every one of them! It goes without saying that if you’re looking for the best views of the mountain in a quiet and romantic atmosphere, then you too should have your engagement session photos taken at Sparks Lake.
