“You can get married on a rooftop, a mountain, a beach or maybe at the downtown Portland courthouse and it won’t change the fact that you’ve chosen to forever bond with your life with another’s. It won’t change that indescribable feeling of saying yes to your best friend. Yes to more adventures, yes to the future, yes to love. And we LOVE to photograph that.”
This was how we captioned a series of photos from Flora and Graham’s Portland elopement on Instagram. We could think of no better words to describe it. To describe that no matter what, photographing a wedding is a truly unique experience. One where you are invited to document a celebration that marks the beginning of an amazing adventure between two people and their families. Sometimes that celebration is grand and opulent, like in a ballroom or an art gallery with 300 guests. Sometimes that celebration is small and intimate, like in a backyard bbq gathering or courthouse elopement with a handful of witnesses. The latter was the case with Flora and Graham, who entered into marriage surrounded by a gathering of family in downtown Portland.
Expecting their first child, Flora and Graham were constantly overwhelmed with emotion during this day, as were their families and witnesses. As you all probably know, Daniel and I have two kids ourselves. We cry more than ever at weddings! So you can imagine how honored Daniel was to be in Flora and Graham’s presence and be given the trusted job of capturing this union. After a truly special ceremony, the couple literally jumped off the courthouse steps and into a fun little portrait session in and around downtown Portland.
Flora and Graham’s families were set to have a dinner together after at Jackknife. This little bar and restaurant has quickly become a favorite place for us to capture portraits. It made the perfect setting for some romantic and ahem, little bit sexy photos of Flora and Graham. The love between these two was just so obviously evident. They are so tender and loving together. The perfect combination of people to raise a human, and we are so happy we could be there for the beginning of their story. Cheers Flora, Graham, and baby boy who has since been born!
